  • The peninsular kingdom of Himadripuram is flourishing under the rule of the just and able king Devdutt Narayan. The people are happy and content and everything is just fine. But one summer, somewhere deep inside the corridors of power, a conspiracy to overthrow the king is taking shape slowly.

A conspiracy that might tear the kingdom apart and render it helpless and hapless. Jagan Mohan is the chief of the Himadripuram Khoofiya Vibhagh (HKV). During the weekly meetings of the HKV, Jagan can sense an undercurrent of discontent among the members. His gut instinct tells him that something is wrong, and he wonders if one or many of the members have turned rogue.

One of the members of the HKV who tries to warn Jagan is found stabbed to death. Within a few days, another member is killed. Jagan with the help of his able pupil and royal guard Vishnu Sarma must unravel the conspiracy before it bursts like a volcanic eruption.

Is Jagan able to successfully stop the kingdom of Himadripuram from disintegrating? Is he able to prevent it from succumbing to anarchy? Only time can tell. He must tread very carefully as the conspirators are ruthless and will stop at nothing…

    Book #31 of 2024

    Rating 4 stars

This story unfolds within the fictional kingdom of Himadripuram, a realm vividly brought to life by the author's rich descriptions of its landscapes and inhabitants. The unique elements such as the robust police force, reliance on horses for travel and communication, and a royal board dedicated to women's welfare add depth and flavor to the narrative, enriching the setting.

A diverse cast of characters populates this kingdom, gradually becoming familiar and relatable as the story progresses. The author skillfully portrays their emotions, from Queen Kothai's visceral response to the King's treatment of their son to the King's conflicted feelings upon recognizing his son's potential as an unworthy successor. Jagan's inner turmoil and Vishu's playful interactions with Lathika add layers to the narrative, while the friendship between Mohana and Lathika shines through.

The plot unfolds swiftly, driven by straightforward narration that effortlessly captivates the reader's attention. Intrigue abounds with espionage and the efforts of the HKV (Himadripuram Koofiya Vibhagh/ secret service) to counter threats, maintaining suspense throughout.

This tale is a genre blend, incorporating elements of politics, romance, friendship, conspiracy, secrets, and deceit, making it a compelling read. The storyline twists and turns, adding depth and intrigue, ultimately converging to resolve seemingly disparate threads into a satisfying conclusion.

The book concludes with the tantalizing words, "To be continued," leaving me eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series.

Go for it! this is a wonderful thriller that will keep you hooked till the very last page.
