Siggy The Soccer Dog | Childrens Book Review

After ages, I’m reading and reviewing a children’s book!

Here is the Blurb :

Siggy looks so cute as he twitches and turns in his sleep.

But as they watch him, little does the family know that in his dream he is “Siggy Sosidj” the star player for Manchester United. It’s up to Siggy to rescue his team in the biggest game of his life. But can he do it?

Join Siggy and a multi-national cast of doggie players to find out - in a fast-paced, beautifully illustrated tale about overcoming the odds, staying true to your purpose and being kind…

Reading age- 5 to 9 years

Grade level - Kindergarden 3

My thoughts

This is a cute little book with illustrations throughout. This is sure to appeal to young readers. The illustrations are not too flashy and I liked them a lot for this reason.

Sigmund the dachunddachshund is Phyllis’s little pet and is lovingly called Siggy. Siggy dreams of being a star Soccer player named Siggy Sosidj. He has to score to make his team win. How he does that is the story.

The relationship between Siggy and Phillis is cute.

There are two songs that you can sing and I’m sure you will as the tunes too have been mentioned and it’s hard to resist the temptation!

It’s a great book to read out loud to small kids and for slightly older children as well. The moral and the theme of the story will surely influence them and the purpose of the book will be well served.

 Author Bio:

Brian Frederick

Children’s book author Brian Frederick knew he wanted to be a writer at a young age, having won praise and awards for his early stories. When he writes, he finds himself entering a bubble of creativity, allowing his mind to wander into an imaginary world.

Whether the story is about embracing enthusiasm and good cheer, or finding gratitude in the little things, Brian’s characters are blessed with good fortune. In Brian’s picture book, Siggy Loves Sausages, the magical little dog Siggy is rewarded for his positivity—with a sausage, of course!

Brian’s background includes being a “bit of a lawyer,” but prefers writing stories rather than writing writs. His philosophy is that a great book is one that shares the beauty in everyday life. His relatability to children is evident, even if it involves fairies, as is in Siggy and The Phlower Phairies. Brian’s hope is that his stories provide happiness and enjoyment to his young readers.

When he isn’t writing imaginative life lessons for children—whilst listening to loud indie rock music on headphones—Brian enjoys following Manchester United Football Club and walking with his wife, Havinder. Together they live in a small nature reserve, where their house is alive with birdsong and woodland critters run around the trees like a fairytale forest. A perfect haven for storytelling.
